5 Places to Publish Your Translations (May 2023)
There are three venues I want to continue to highlight: Alluvium (the online journal of Literary Shanghai), QLRS, and Eunoia Review. These online journals are always open to submissions of your translations, and you’ll enjoy working with the editors of all three publications.
When you are submitting to any of the recommended markets, always remember to read the guidelines carefully and follow them precisely.
Here are five more markets for you to look at this month:
Y’alla is a biannual publication that features fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction translated from Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Hebrew, and othr languages of the MENA region. Please send evidence of translation rights with your submission. See the submission guidelines here.
Circumference Magazine is a journal intensely interested in translation. From the guidelines site: “We are looking for translations of new poetry being written around the globe, translations of poets of the past who may not be familiar to American readers, and new visions of classical poems. We’re also interested in translations of drama, essays, and other long-form writing, and in interviews with and profiles of artists around the world. We’d like to learn about authors who have not previously appeared in English-language translation, and about works in languages that are not often translated into English.” Submission guidelines here.
The Shanghai Literary Review seeks works originally written in English or translated into English. The journal receives submissions on a rolling basis. See their guidelines here.
Nimrod International Journal is seeking submissions of poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction. The journal is published twice a year. There is a $3 reading fee, but this is a paying market, if your work is accepted ($10/page, with a maximum payment of $200). The journal also hosts a pair of contests that might be of interest. Learn more at their guidelines page.
Waxwing is published three times a year, in February, June, and October. Each issue features approximately fifteen poets, ten to twelve writers of fiction and nonfiction, and five to eight authors in translation, along with a music column, book reviews, and interviews. Submissions are capped at 300 per month. Waxwing is open to translations of fiction, nonfiction and poetry year-round and will ask translators for a “Translator’s Note” that contextualizes the work upon publication. Please see more details and guidelines here.
I hope to see your work in some of the journals and websites in the near future!
